Our History

Meet Amanda Wilson, The Pie Mill Director

We are a small family run business which began in 2005. When we started the business, I was in partnership with my parents, Jim and Margaret, but over the last ten years I managed the Pie Mill whilst my parents were busy in their pub. During this time, I studied and gained a business degree with The Institute for Leadership and Management. In 2020 we sadly lost dad, so mum decided it was time to retire (she's now my accounts lady!).

After a couple of tough years during the pandemic we were lucky to be asked to take part in the filming of 'A Lake District Farm Shop' which was about Tebay Services, The Dunning Family and their local suppliers. We have always had a good working relationship with Tebay and feel proud to be one of their suppliers as well as part of their team. As well as supplying the farm shops, we also supply the pub trade and love working closely with all our customers.

This has helped our business go from strength to strength.

We make our products using the best quality local ingredients and make all our mixtures, fillings, pastry, and stocks on site daily using traditional recipes.

Our original savoury pie range are all named after the local fells in our area; Blencathra (Beef in Ale) and Skiddaw (Steak & Kidney) being our very first pies. We now make such a large range of products we have ran out of local fells! We began with 6 pies and now have a range of 50 including our deli pie range with many different flavours.

I am extremely proud that in September 2022 I won an Enterprise Vision Award for Hospitality. At the time, I dedicated the award to my dad as the Pie Mill was always his dream - none of the above would have been possible without the support of my hardworking team, my mum and my husband.
