Our Suppliers

All the meat we use is from specialist local suppliers who buy the animals from Cumbrian farmers or actually rear the stock themselves. This means that we can trace where our meat comes from and be certain of the quality as well as being sure that we are supplying our customers with a genuine Cumbrian experience. Hence the local names of our pies!

We buy our chicken and turkey from our suppliers at Highgate Turkeys which is just up the road, and we buy beef, lamb, pork from The Westmorland Group. We also get beef from Felltop Meats, and use James Fruit and Veg which is in Penrith.

Our bakery supplies come from Bako North Western and Pioneer Foodservice. And we have Cornvale Foods and Cartmel Valley as suppliers to thank for the high quality game in our delicious pies.

The Queens Head, Tirril

Queens Head suppliersThe Queens Head in Tirril have a pie page on their menu at all times featuring featuring pies from The Pie Mill, and every other Wednesday they have a pie night which includes a pie, vegetables, gravy, mash/chips with a pint/small glass of wine for £10.

The pies have become a main talking point at the Queens Head– we have many conversations with customers on their love of good pies, from the fact that they are individual pies with excellent shortcrust pastry and not just a pastry lid to their enjoyment of lots of meat filling and not empty space when you cut into it. Other comments include the richness of the fillings, the quality of the meat used, tender & succulent, how every pie can look a little different - evidence of the individual hand-made aspect.

Since deciding to offer our pies to take home we are delighted to be building good relationships with our pie lovers e.g locals coming up to the Queens Head to take pies home for tea and some bring their jugs for our gravy too! A customer from the north east even bought a selection of pies to serve at his local ‘Burns Supper'.

We have regular customers who have holiday caravans & lodges nearby and they took pies home for the freezer over the winter – declaring that they would get withdrawal symptoms otherwise. Lots of our residents take pies home after staying with us – and this is all over the country.
