Amanda Hodge from The Pie Mill and The Mill Inn, Penrith has been crowned National Steak Pie Champion 2005 in the English Beef and Lamb Executive's (EBLEX) national competition. During a nerve-wracking final cook-off round, Amanda, 28, fought off five other finalists to claim the honour of serving one of the best steak pies in England.

Amanda said: "This is definitely one of the proudest moments in my career. I've been a chef here at my parents' pub for the past six years and this is the first competition I've ever entered. I can't tell you how happy I am to be awarded the title of 'EBLEX National Steak Pie Champion 2005'."

March 2005
Jim, Margaret and Amanda's were invited to meet HRH Prince Charles at the opening of Mungrisdale's new village hall. We displayed our pies and Prince Charles was most interested in Amanda's secret of her pastry!

Our third Pie Fest was hailed a great success!  Over the weekend we did nearly 600 covers and raised £3,514 for a local charity 'Hospice at Home'.

This is a weekend of fun & pies! We put-up a Marquee in the car park which seats 80 people and a band plays in the evenings - this is most popular even though it's in November!

We raised the charity funds through a silent auction, a daily raffle for pies to take home, and most importantly a ‘penny for the guy' impersonation of Jim -  and the youngsters made great hilarity making this.

Dates for Pie Fest 2005 are 4th, 5th and 6th November

October 2004

Jim, Margaret and the team were delighted and very proud to receive this award which complimented their hard work.
